About Financial Accelerator

By Sergio Ruiz · Last reviewed: October 8, 2026

What this site is

Financial Accelerator is a free calculator that shows what happens to a loan when you pay more than the minimum. You enter a balance, an interest rate and a term, add a monthly, yearly or one-time extra payment, and see how much interest you would save, how many months sooner the loan would be paid off, and the full year-by-year schedule.

It works for any fixed-rate loan: a mortgage, a car loan, a student loan or a personal loan. The site is available in English and Spanish.

Why it exists

The effect of an extra payment is easy to underestimate and hard to picture. Most people know that paying more helps; fewer know by how much, or how much it depends on when the money arrives. The goal here is to make that effect visible, and to make every assumption behind the numbers explicit. You can read exactly how the calculation works on the methodology page.

Who is behind it

Financial Accelerator is built and maintained by Sergio Ruiz, a market intelligence and strategy professional with more than 15 years of experience in private education, where he has worked on graduate and executive programs, and who has also advised private schools on enrollment and retention. He is also the author of DividendosMX, an independent site about dividends on the Mexican stock exchanges, and runs a strategy consultancy.

Sergio is an individual who analyzes data and builds tools for it. He is not a financial advisor, lender, broker or tax professional, and nothing on this site is personal financial advice.

What this site is not

  • It is not a lender, a broker or a marketplace. It does not collect applications and does not recommend a specific lender or product.
  • It does not know your lender's exact rules. Fees, prepayment penalties, rounding and the way extra money is applied vary by contract; always confirm with your servicer.
  • It is not a substitute for a professional when your situation is complex.

How the site is funded

Financial Accelerator is a self-funded project. It is free to use and does not require an account. It does not currently show advertising. If that changes, ads will be clearly labeled and will never influence the calculations or the editorial content. See our editorial policy for how content is produced and reviewed.

Your data
